PADI ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR - Professional Level Scuba Diver Training
The PADI Assistant Instructor course is the first segment of the Instructor Development Course (IDC), and results in limited teaching responsibilities and the role of an instructor's assistant. Learning the PADI system of diver education and gaining additional experience as a Professional Scuba Diver, the PADI Assistant Instructor is a quality step towards the Open Water Scuba Instructor certification. All my certified assistant instructor training is completed through a reputable PADI IDCS Instructor.
Requirements for PADI Assistant Instructor Training:
- Be a PADI Divemaster (or any qualifying certification from another diving certification organisation).
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have 60 logged dives, including Night, Deep, and Navigation Dives.
- Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months.
- Have CPR and First Aid Training within the last 24 months.
- Be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
You will learn:
The Assistant Instructor course develops your teaching skills and your ability to organize and supervise scuba diving activities composed of the following;
- Combination of self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations.
- Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations.
- Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations.
Course Duration of the Assistant Instructor Course :
Like all PADI courses, the A.I. course is performance based, so it could take 7 days or more, however a more relaxed pace would take 10 days to complete.

The study materials required for the course are excluded from the price* though the PADI Assistant Instructor crewpack is available from the RdA eDive Center upon request, and includes all of the training materials that are required for the Assistant Instructor Course.

- Teach academic presentations under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor.
- Teach and certify PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Divers under the direction of a PADI Instructor.
- Teach Project AWARE Specialty courses.
- Teach the AWARE Coral Reef Conservation specialty course.
- Conduct PADI Discover Scuba Diving experiences in a pool or confined water.
- Teach PADI Digital Underwater Photographer specialty courses under the direction of a PADI Instructor after earning the
- PADI Digital Underwater
- Photographer Specialty Instructor rating.
What options are available to a PADI Assistant Instructor ?
Assistant Instructors have already completed almost half of the IDC (instructor development course) and they may only need to complete the OWSI (open water scuba instructor) portion to be certified as a PADI Scuba Instructor.
